Summary

The full text of the Design Issues section of “The Cook Book on Intake Screens” provides an overview of design considerations.  These begin with the following questions:  How much water do we need?, When do we need the water? Where can we get the water?, How much will it cost? These are the big four. They lead to addition questions such as -- Who can do the design?, What permits do we need?, Who gives the permits?, Where will we get the money?, and How long will it take to design, permit, finance, and build? Selection of screen technology will have an impact on the answers to all of these questions.

 

The Take Away

Effective screen development is based upon considering technical, environmental, and logistical concerns prior to designing a screen system.  Integrating the design of the intake system into the site plan will save considerable effort and will improve the function of the plant in operation.
